李安推手英文影评 The story is about an elderly gentleman mr chu from beijing emigrates to America to live with his son Alex in new york and comes into conflict with his son's all-American wife. Martha is Alex’s american wife and a wiriter. When mr chu live in their home , Martha is writing her second book. Mr chu is a Tai Chi Master and performance as a typical Chinese old man . Martha is the Representative of western culture .The culture gap between them is so extreme . so she cannt stand stay with mr chu in the same space . As a result ,the inner conflict happens.. At the first 20 minutes ,mr chu and martha share space in the kitchen and living room , They don't want to try to communicate with each other . Mr chu is practicing tai chi leisurely, Martha is anxious for her new book. Their behaviour reflects the different understanding of personal space. Chinese pay more attention to the whole family ,Within this collective family system one becomes only a member of a family in which one must learn to restrain oneself and to subdue one’s individuality in order to maintain the harmony in the family. while the american have no conception to stay with their parents after marriage .they pay more attention to personal space . When their child jimmy draw the cartoon about the doom of the world , Martha encourges him for his creation .mr chu is curious about the education of america, cause in china the authority is authority-centred .the Chinese parents always tells their children what they can do and what they cannt do .but in America, as alex told his father, parents treats children more democratically The first time of the inner conflict shows up is at the dinner time .both mc And m talks to alex in different language . Mc wonders that why m doesnt eat meat ,m suggest they move to a bigger house.another day, his father get lost. At that time , individualistic x said my father is a part of my life. the Chinese ethic of filial plays an important role in Chinese culture.alex want to treat his father as well as he can. American ask little children should do for their parents. That demonstrate that the relational orientations between parents and children is lineal in china and individualistic in america. Mr. Chu’s attempts to come to terms with his new surroundings, he teaches Tai Chi at the local Chinese school where Alex’s son also goes to learn Chinese. At the school, Mr. Chu meets Mrs. Chen who from Taiwan who teaches a cooking class. The two immediately catches each other’s eye cause the same situation. So when mc knows that his son filing he and mrs c ,he decide to leave the family to live alone. At last ,both mc snd mc live at china town alone. As with other of Lee’s movies, the film concerns itself with the culture shock ,family and duty, and how the two co-exists. Mc and m know little about the others view and brief, they have not the 意识to learn others .that accounts a lot reasons of the final result .The film concentrates on wry observations of why such tranquility is not possible in contemporary America, and in seeing this new world through old Mr. Chu's point of view. The title, a tai chi reference, is described as "a way of keeping your balance while unbalancing your opponent." As such, it aptly describes this teacher's new life. 。
